Lola’s Mates: Gennaro Contaldo
Picture your hero and then imagine meeting them. What would you say?
I’m over the moon because I had the chance to meet one of my all time heroes, Gennaro Contaldo. I first watched Gennaro on the Jamie Oliver series “Jamie at Home” when they went mushrooming and cooked up a storm in a forest. The day I watched the mushroom episode I had failed a chemistry exam at uni and didn’t think I was ‘brainy’ enough to make it through my Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine) degree. But it dawned on me after watching the episode that the one single ‘ingredient’ that these two shared and wanted to express to the world was passion. This spurred me to stay focused, work hard and keep sight of the ultimate goal; to inspire people to live the best lives they can with the help of real foods.
Since meeting Gennaro I can tell you that he is so much more amazing than I could have ever imagined. Yes, he’s very passionate about food, but there’s more to it than that, he’s passionate about people, experiences and life.
I thought that filming this segment with Gennaro would be all about inspiring people to try new ingredients and mix new flavours together in the kitchen. But it really was about doing the things that resonate with you, your passion… I got to have my Jamie Oliver mushrooming moment.
To really shine in this life you have to be doing what you love. Simple. It can be cooking, doing art, running events, writing a song, accounting, surfing, traveling, you name it! It really is that simple. If you get this concept then it’s a bit of a ‘penny drop moment’.
Gennaro is the perfect example; do what you love and love what you do.
You can watch the segment on The Circle (Network Ten) Thursday 31st May.
An extended version will be released in “Lola’s Mates” web series this month. Be the first to watch it (and receive free recipes) by signing-up to receive Lola’s Monthly e-Newsletter.
