Lola’s 7 Day Juice Cleanse
A juice cleanse is such a great (and flavoursome!) way to get stacks of nutrients into the body. So I’ve put together a 7 day Juice Cleanse each specifically designed to help out different ailments of the body. From speeding up your metabolism, to aiding a hangover and settling an upset stomach… these juices should keep you in good stead! Do one a day for a week or whenever ‘floats your boat’!! PS BIG thanks to JuiceBuddy for giving us a tip-top juicer!! X
Juice #1: Mean-Green:
Getting greens in your diet can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. When you think greens you think bitter and not so super tasty. But trust me, in a juice combo, not only do they taste great, but you’re getting all the essential goodies.
Upping your greens is one of the best ways to stimulate a mini-detox in the body. Imagine if you stared the day with one of these bad-boys each morning for 2 weeks – the whites of your eyes will be the clearest they’ve ever been!
Ingredients
2 handfuls of spinach (or any leafy green), a handful of coriander leaves (aka: cilantro), 1 lime, 1 cucumber, 1 handful of mint, thumb of ginger, 1 granny smith apple
Guess What?!:
Granny smith green apples stimulate digestive secretions, whereas, sweeter red apples are higher in antioxidants but don’t have the same effect on digestion. So green sour apples to help increase digestive enzymes, and the red ones give you antioxidants. So what’s better? Mix it up! I think grannies taste loads better in this combo.
Juice #2: Beet Blood Cleanse
I love this juice, because it’s sweet enough for anyone to enjoy and it’s jam packed full of goodies! It’s got so many goodies in it that work on the liver, gut and even heart health. This is an all rounder. Great juice to have as your mid-morning snack.
Mix it – if you’re not a ginger fan, pull it out. It’s all about making flavour combos that work for you.
Ingredients:
1 medium beetroot, 2 carrots, 3 celery stalks, thumb of ginger, 1 lemon (keep the skin on for extra health benefits), 1 apple (granny smith has a more sour flavour, a red apple will give a sweeter flavour).
Quirky Fact: Celery looks like a bone; has the exact same sodium ratio as our bones do – almost like these foods were created for us. Eat foods that look like parts of the body. Celery – bones, tomato – heart, carrot – iris.
Juice #3: Gingy! It’s Ginger!
This juice is my all time favo – it packed a powerful punch, but works so quickly! The combo of ginger root family ingredients, all have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect on the body. It also works wonders on the immune system!
Ingredients:
2 carrots, 1 yellow grapefruit, 2 thumbs of ginger, 1 small chunk of turmeric, one small chunk of galangal, 1 lemon.
Quirky Fact:
Ginger is also great for settling an upset tummy, so you could have this juice, but dilute, 1/3 juice to 2 parts warm water for a nice warming and calming drink for the tum-tum. Great way to warm you up in the winter too!
Juice #4: The Hangover Cure
We all like to celebrate every now and then, and if you’ve ever had one too many drinks you know you’ll be feeling it the next day. This little “shot” will have you feeling right as rain in a flash! The lemon stimulates your liver and the ginger will help move things through as it aids any type of detoxification!
Ingredients:
2 x lemons (keep the skin on), 1 grapefruit, 1 mega thumb of ginger.
Quirky Fact: Old folk remedy: rub lemons under your armpits the next day to rid yourself of a hangover if you can’t bring yourself to make a juice!
Juice #5: Metabolic Booster
We all want to be slim, so this a great one when it comes to making your metabolic rate nice and fast. When you’re metabolic rate is sped up, you’re burning energy at a much faster rate, thus burning fat.
Ingredients:
2 x beetroots, 1 carrot, 1 yellow grapefruit, 1 x red chilli, 1 x turmeric thumb, 1 x thumb of ginger
Quirky Fact: Foods that help to speed up our metabolism have a thermogenic effect on the body. Chili – put it in your socks to keep you warm in the winter it’s believed.
